FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

LEICHTAG FOUNDATION HIRES PAINT ENCINITAS FOUNDER

Encinitas, CA – May 19th, 2015 – The Leichtag Foundation announced today the hiring of Jax Meyers, founder of Paint Encinitas, as Communications and Outreach Associate.

“What Jax Meyers has accomplished in one year with Paint Encinitas is inspiring,” said Jim Farley, President and CEO of the Leichtag Foundation.  “Jax grew up in this Encinitas and devotes her energy and passion to this city, and we want to support innovators like Jax.”

Meyers is a local talent.  She grew up in Encinitas and graduated from La Costa Canyon High School in 2006.  She went on to University of California – Los Angeles to successfully complete a B.A. in English Literature and a minor degree in LGBT Studies.  After college, she served over 1700 hours with AmeriCorps as a Community Service Coordinator in Philadelphia, PA.

DSC02006“Jax has demonstrated her love for community building. She is exploring the use of public spaces as venues for creativity and artistic expression. Encinitas is craving this type of engagement,” said Andy Kastner, Director of Educational Leadership and Innovation for Leichtag Foundation, who recently has been appointed to Encinitas Arts Commission. “The farm at the Leichtag Foundation property seeks to offer venues for artistic exploration as well.”

In 2012, the Leichtag Foundation purchased the former Ecke Ranch (441 Saxony Rd) in Encinitas to develop a community farm that will provide educational experiences while improving the local food system. The farm has already donated over 4,000 pounds of fresh organic produce into local food banks like Community Resource Center in Encinitas.

“Everyone deserves access to the arts,” said Jim Farley.  “In addition, everyone deserves access to real food, grown sustainably, organically, and locally.”

In her role as Communications and Outreach Associate, Meyers will be promoting events at the farm, engaging the community through social media, and communicating the impact of the farm’s work. Meyers will continue her work with Paint Encinitas part-time, which has recently partnered with 501(c)3 nonprofit Beautify Earth.

“I’m drawn to projects that are improving the health and wellness of our community,” said Meyers.  “The Leichtag Foundation and I are very much mission aligned.”
