Building connections between San Diego and Israel through engagement, relationship building, and interest alignment

Through the eyes of entrepreneurs like the Leichtags, Israel was the ultimate start-up. Israel is a living example of democratic society in constant evolution, responding to new challenges and opportunities at every turn and seeking to live up to the ideals upon which it was founded.

The Leichtag Foundation focuses its efforts on engagement with Israel, providing a spectrum of opportunities to connect to the State and its people from a variety of perspectives, build relationships based on mutual interest and learn more about Israel’s culture, diversity, history, competencies and struggles. While we recognize the importance of advocacy which provides tools and resources that champion for and defend Israel on a political level, the Foundation does not support Israel advocacy activities.

Our primary tool for deploying these strategies: The Murray Galinson San Diego Israel Initiative

The Murray Galinson San Diego-Israel Initiative (MGSDII) – Leichtag Foundation established the MGSDII in partnership with a growing consortium of funders that care about deep, multi-faceted education about Israel to strategically promote, support and catalyze knowledge discourse and interaction on the modern state of Israel through scholarship, engagement and collaboration. The MGSDII is a network of Israel Studies programs on San Diego campuses including UC San Diego (UCSD), San Diego State University (SDSU), CSU San Marcos (CSUSM), University of San Diego (USD) and Cal Western School of Law. MGSDII programs include academic courses; lectures, Israel immersion experiences for students and faculty; visiting Israeli professors and postdocs; conferences and symposiums; and community education opportunities.
