Food Systems Map with Center on Policy Initiatives

The Center on Policy Initiatives is a nonprofit partner committed to economic prosperity, sustainable communities, and healthy environments for all. They provide analysis, policy solutions, and education to support social and economic justice for working people and diverse communities in the San Diego region. A Leichtag Foundation grant in 2017 helped CPI conduct research and collect data on San Diego’s food system workforce and its impact on the local economy. This research furthers their policy change efforts to advance healthy food access, address poverty, and prioritize job quality and workers’ rights in our food system.

Their report, “Mapping San Diego County Food Systems,” uses this research to dive deep into wage disparity among food service workers, access to food institutions by geography and economic status, and the policies that distribute food unequally. You can learn from their work, which is still developing, here.
