Muslala Artists Collective

Established in 2009, Muslala Artists Collective is a community of creatives who believe that art and creativity can bring about sustainable change. They activate underutilized public spaces, particularly in Jerusalem’s city center with accessible art pieces, like a meditation dome and storytelling stairs, to increase openness and the use of the spaces. Much of their activity takes place at The Terrace on the rooftop of their building, where they are creating an “Urban Rooftop Oasis,” a platform for community engagement through urban nature, farming, creative workshops, educational opportunities and a meeting place for various groups.

The Terrace sits atop Binyan Clal, the unrealized heart of Jerusalem built in the 70s to be the center of Jerusalem’s prosperity. Clal remained underutilized for decades until Muslala took residence. Now they’re attempting to revive Clal by converting it into a new sustainable, creative and community based-heart for the city. The Terrace features sculptures as meeting places and housing for educational opportunities, horticultural destination for creating an air of freshness and green art energizing its visitors.

Foundation funding supports the master planning and design of the second stage of The Terrace.
