You will leave this lively hands‐on workshop with techniques to earn a standing ovation in all your future presentations. \n\n  \n\nMeet the Facilitator: \nTodd Salovey is an award-winning professional theatre director and is on UCSD faculty in both Theatre and Dance and the Rady School of Management.  He is a director\, producer\, writer\, artistic director\, and communications and leadership coach.  He has coached CEOs and leaders in a range of industries.  His communications program\, Standing Ovation Presentations has been delivered at MBA programs\, universities\, and businesses across the country.  In 2018\, he was a recipient of the UCSD Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award\, and in 2023 was awarded Most Valuable Prof by the Flex evening and weekend cohorts at Rady.  Todd is the founding artistic director of the Lipinsky Family San Diego Jewish Arts Festival. \n\n

Brown\, Ph.D. is a non-profit executive\, educator\, and world-renowned expert on genocide studies. Sara holds the first Ph.D. in comparative genocide studies from the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Clark University. She was a director of Chhange\, a Holocaust\, human rights\, and genocide education non-profit and managed post-secondary education programming for USC Shoah Foundation. Sara has an extensive background in non-profit advocacy and in education. SUMMARY:Radical Inclusion: Centering the Voices of Multiethnic Jews to Dismantle Contemporary Antisemitism
DESCRIPTION:Despite the fact that multiethnic Jews account for nearly 20% of Jews in the United States\, far too many Jewish communal spaces look largely homogenous. As a result\, Jewish communities are not reflecting the beautiful diversity of the Jewish diaspora. Engaging multiethnic Jewish voices in the fight against antisemitism requires establishing inclusive Jewish communities that also fight against the fallacy of white supremacy. Contemporary antisemitism is complex and animated by people who view the world through the lens of the oppressive power structures of colonialism\, patriarchy\, and white supremacy all of which are complicated by multiethnic Jewish voices. This presentation will explain how to build inclusive Jewish communities that effectively combat the narratives that function to perpetuate contemporary antisemitism in movement spaces without tokenizing multiethnic Jewish voices. \nThe training will take place from 3-5pm. Join JPro San Diego for a happy hour immediately following! \nMeet Our Facilitator:\n \nKiyomi is an Afro-Latin\, queer\, Jewish\, Marine Corps veteran\, mother who works to ensure that all of the intersecting identities of her and her children feel at home in any space. If there is one word to sum up her life’s work it would be “inclusion.” Kiyomi’s social justice activism is centered on creating more inclusive spaces for Jewish people of all backgrounds as well as eradicating racism and antisemitism. To that end\, she develops\, produces\, and facilitates panels\, workshops\, and discussions on the topics of race\, racism\, and antisemitism and utilizes non-violent communication approaches to coach people through tough conversations and promote productive dialogues. In 2020\, Kiyomi co-founded Jewbian Princess\, a Black\, Jewish women-led organization to deliver corporate-level diversity and inclusion education to Jewish organizations through a Jewish lens. Kiyomi joined the Project Shema team as a coach and facilitator to help educate people on antisemitism and its root causes within social justice activism in 2021. In her role as the Director of Partnerships at Project Shema\, Kiyomi works with Jewish activists to provide a training and support strategy with the goal of slowing the tide of antisemitism to ensure Jewish voices are included in progressive activism. Recently\, Kiyomi joined the facilitator team at Ta’amod to “stand up” for creating psychologically safe Jewish workplaces through empathy\, education\, and equity. In addition to her day jobs\, Kiyomi serves as a board member of the Los Angeles section of the National Council for Jewish Women (“NCJW”) and the national board of Jewish Council of Public Affairs (“JCPA”). She has a degree in political science and a Juris Doctorate with an emphasis in public service. Today\, she has a B.A. in International Relations from the Hebrew University\, and an M.A. in Dispute Resolution and Management from Tel Aviv University. Fully aware of her complex identity as a Jew\, an Israeli and a member of the Ethiopian community\, she made an early decision to devote herself to ensuring young Ethiopian Israelis overcame the hurdles of racism and negative stereotypes they faced daily in Israeli society. Gathering experience through several positions in the Jewish Agency and a number of social-change organizations\, in 2009 Kanotopsky arrived at Olim Beyahad\, where she has spent the last decade inspiring Ethiopian Israeli university students to fulfill their potential. \nWith her singular brand of activism\, she has turned Olim Beyahad into an efficient and effective launch pad for thousands of brilliant Ethiopian-Israeli men and women who now occupy leading positions in the corporate\, nonprofit and public sectors throughout Israel. To accomplish this\, Kanotopsky painstakingly assembled a network of 2\,500 handpicked volunteers whom she molded into an army of guiding mentors. On the way\, Kanotopsky opened doors to her students in over a thousand companies\, and increased Olim Beyahad’s budget by 50 percent through a host of additional funding partners. Unwilling to rest on her laurels\, Kanotopsky recently launched a national\, multi-channeled media initiative designed to change the way Ethiopian Israelis are portrayed in the press\, in film and television\, and on social media\, and so actively and finally reduce racism and discrimination towards the Ethiopian community and minorities in general. \n\n\n

Scholarships are available.  \nMeet the Facilitator:\nMax Disposti\, Executive Director\, North County LGBTQ Resource Center \nMax was born in Rome\, Italy in 1968 and lived there for 30 years. After college he pursued his volunteer aspirations and worked with different human rights non-profit organizations. Upon arriving in the United States in 1998\, and after moving to Southern California in 2001\, he began volunteering with local agencies and noticed the need for a stronger North County San Diego LGBT community. In January 2008\, he founded the North County LGBT Coalition\, a non-profit organization that almost immediately increased LGBT visibility in the North San Diego community.  After four years of hard work\, the North County LGBTQ Resource Center opened in 2011\, which Max now operates as Executive Director. \nIn addition to his work at the Resource Center\, Max is active in the San Diego community at large. His current work involves the following: San Diego Leadership Council\, Mainstreet Oceanside Board Secretary\, Advancing Compassion Board Member\, SD County Sheriff LGBT Advisory Council\, Oceanside Library Board\, and the Oceanside Martin Luther King Advisory Committee. From 2008 to 2011 he worked as the Oceanside community relations commissioner.

In addition to his work with theatre dybbuk\, Aaron teaches storytelling throughout the country and has presented workshops at Lucasfilm\, Pixar\, and Dreamworks. With Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion\, he has been faculty for the EMA program\, was the Diane Luboff Scholar at the Cutter Colloquium\, and is a part of Beit HaYotzer/the Creativity Braintrust.  Aaron has also served as a professional mentor at Otis College of Art and Design and as faculty for the Wexner Heritage Program\, as well as for Georgetown University. He has worked as an educator and facilitator for a wide variety of organizations including The Hive at Leichtag Commons\, Jewish Federation of North America’s Young Leadership Cabinet\, and The Bronfman Fellowship.
